The United Nations: Of the two billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine distributed globally until now, around 60 percent have gone to only three countries – US, India and China, said senior advisors in the world of world health.
Senior advisor for whom Director General of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Bruce Aylward made a comment on the press direction on Friday.
This week, we will see more than two billion doses we might pass two billion doses of landmarks in terms of the number of new covid-19 vaccine and vaccine which has actually been developed. It has been distributed now in more than 212 countries, said Aylward.
If we see two billion doses, more than 75 percent of it has gone to only 10 countries. And in fact three countries – China, US and India – accounted for around 60 percent of the dose, he said.
He said while Covax played an important role in distributing Covid-19 doses to 127 countries and getting several countries to start their vaccination drive, the challenge was in the vaccine.
He said 60 percent of two billion doses had gone to China, India and the US were all bought and used domestically.
Aylward notes that at the end of the spectrum, only around 0.5 percent of the global doses have gone to the lowest income countries that accounts for around 10 percent of the world population.
And even if we see middle-income countries down, it’s only higher than that in terms of coverage we get. So we are increasingly seeing the recovery of two trajectories and vaccine launches, he said.
While there is a high vaccine coverage in high-risk populations and younger populations in high-income countries, we are still struggling to get enough products just to be able to vaccinate health care workers, older populations in the right low-income countries -Tar the key to get out of health, social and economic crisis that we are in the middle.
Aylward said that around 80 million doses have been distributed through Covax so far and the global alliance for a fair vaccine distribution is around 200 million doses behind where it must be caused by a disturbance in the covax inventory as a result of the second wave of destruction in India.
The problem now is the inventory is disturbed. We experienced a disorder due to problems in India and others and had difficulty filling the gap. And as a result, countries have difficulty getting momentum and getting started well.
