Global outcry against Taliban grows louder after Afghan ‘govt’ seeks podium at United Nations General Assembly

Soon after the Taliban wrote to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres seeking the proper to participate within the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, the planet community vehemently expressed their opposition to the request by stating that “the show by Afghanistan’s new rulers would serve no purpose”.

The Taliban had nominated their spokesman Suhail Shaheen because the Central Asian country’s new ambassador to the United Nations . Shaheen’s nomination comes as an immediate confrontation between the Taliban and erstwhile Afghan government’s envoy Gram Isakuzai.

Gerrmany has voiced its opposition to the Taliban’s request whilst China, Russia and Pakistan extend their arm of friendship to the militant group.

“To schedule a show at the United Nations won’t serve anything. What’s important is concrete deeds and not just words,” German secretary of state Heiko Maas said on Wednesday.

On the eve of the commencement of the UN General Debate on September 20, the Secretary-General had received a communication with the letterhead ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs’, signed by ‘Ameer Khan Muttaqi’ because the ‘Minister of Foreign Affairs’.

In the letter, the Taliban requested participation within the 76th session of the UNGA from September 21-27.

“A new Permanent Representative, Mohammad Suhail Shaheen, is nominated,” the Taliban wrote in their letter.

Meanwhile, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, told Sputnik press agency on the sidelines of the overall Assembly that waiving off sanctions on the Taliban wasn’t on the UN Security Council’s agenda.

“The topic of lifting the sanctions imposed on the Taliban via the safety Council isn’t on the agenda immediately . Of course, this is often a crucial issue, and sooner or later it’ll still need to be solved. I (can) say that practically all members of the Council, and not just the five members of its permanent members, have repeatedly, during their speeches on the subject of Afghanistan, talked about the cautious approach toward the new Afghan authorities,” Nebenzia said.

The Taliban toppled the Ashraf Ghani government within the country last month during a blitzkrieg assault on the Afghan defence forces, seizing control following the withdrawal of the us military that began on May Day . The capital city of Kabul fell to the insurgents on Assumption , marking the top of the democratic government.

The insurgent group claimed victory over the resistance forces of Panjshir on September 6, completing their takeover of the country.
