Minions 3 Release Dates Announced Amid Despicable Me 4 Screening

Fans of the Minions franchise won’t have to wait much longer for the next installment. Following the successful debut of Despicable Me 4, the creators have now announced that Minions 3 is slated for release in June 2027.

The upcoming sequel is written by Brian Lynch, and Pierre Coffin, who has been a staple in the Despicable Me universe, will be back in the director’s chair. Coffin, known for his work not only behind the scenes but also as the voice of the iconic Minions since their first appearance in 2010, will once again bring his unique touch to the beloved characters.

Minions 3 is being produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, alongside Bill Ryan. The film also benefits from the executive production team behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, ensuring a high level of creative oversight and quality.

Since its inception nearly a decade ago, the Minions franchise has become a juggernaut in the animation industry, amassing over $5 billion in revenue. This impressive figure includes earnings from both the Despicable Me series and its prequel, Minions. The franchise has delivered major hits, including Despicable Me 2, which received an Oscar nomination, and Despicable Me 3, which grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

Another standout success for the franchise was Minions: The Rise of Gru, which premiered in 2022 and took the box office by storm, raking in $230 million globally.

The sustained success of the Minions movies has not gone unnoticed. Media critic Peter Debruge commented on the phenomenon in an editorial for Variety, noting, “Less than a year after dual writers’ and actors’ strikes shut down Hollywood, kid-friendly cartoons are propping up the theatrical box office in a big way. Now, my friend (and many like him) may look right past these movies, preferring ambitious grown-up sagas like Furiosa and Horizon. But in a summer without a Barbenheimer — which, let’s face it, is every summer except 2023 — these animated movies are keeping the popcorn flowing … and helping to justify the megaplexes’ outrageous AC bills.”

With Minions 3 on the horizon, it’s clear that the appeal of these little yellow characters is as strong as ever. The franchise’s ability to consistently draw in audiences of all ages ensures that it will remain a mainstay in theaters for years to come.
