James Gunn, the filmmaker and writer, has unveiled the inaugural glimpse of the forthcoming Superman movie, featuring David Corenswet donning the iconic Superman attire. Set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
Writer-director James Gunn shared the premiere appearance of David Corenswet as Superman on May 6. Despite being somewhat concealed, it’s confirmed that the classic red trunks remain a fixture in Corenswet’s Superman portrayal, a departure from the suit in the DC Extended Universe.
Fans were ecstatic at the sight of the red trunks, expressing their enthusiasm online. One exclaimed, “HE’S GOT THE TRUNKS!”
Corenswet, renowned for his roles in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series “The Politician” (2019–2020) and “Hollywood” (2020), is poised to garner instant fame with his new role as Superman.
The highly anticipated film boasts a star-studded cast, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Holt as Lex Luthor, and others such as Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Edi Gathegi, Terence Rosemore, Anthony Carrigan, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, María Gabriela de Faría, and Wendell Pierce.
David Corenswet joins the elite roster of actors who have portrayed the iconic Superman on-screen, including Christopher Reeve (1978-87), Brandon Routh (2006), and Henry Cavill (2013-2022).
Additionally, the first glimpse hints at a potential alien invasion backdrop, with the Man of Steel seated near a window overlooking towering skyscrapers.
