Robert Downey Jr. Is Set to Make His Broadway Debut With ‘McNeal’

Robert Downey Jr. is set to make his Broadway debut in Ayad Akhtar’s latest play, “McNeal,” where he will take on the role of Jacob McNeal, a talented writer with an “unhealthy fascination with artificial intelligence.” The play’s previews begin on September 5.

Academy Award-winning actor Robert Downey Jr., beloved for his role as Iron Man, will lead Ayad Akhtar’s new play. As Jacob McNeal, Downey will portray a gifted writer struggling with his latest novel and grappling with a broken family life while fixated on artificial intelligence.

Directed by Bartlett Sher, known for his work on “Oslo” (2017) and “To Kill a Mockingbird” (2018), the play will be performed at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater and will run until November 24. The remaining cast members will be announced soon.

Downey, one of the highest-grossing actors of all time, recently garnered acclaim for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss in “Oppenheimer,” earning him an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA. Despite taking a break from stage acting, Downey assures his fans that he is ready to deliver a flawless performance in this highly anticipated production.
