The report also highlighted that every third parent (35.1%) claimed that parents faced incidents of domestic violence in their old age.
At least 73% of the elderly population said that they had experienced harassment during the locking imposed to conclude the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic this year, according to a report released by the Agewell Foundation. The report, which took responses from 5,000 elderly also highlighted that 82% of respondents said that their lives had been affected because of the current Covid-19 situation.
Respondents said that cases of abuse against them increased during and after the locking period. Among them, 61% claim interpersonal relations are the main factor to increase the incidence of abuse of elder in the household. The survey also showed that 65% of these elderly people face neglect in their lives while at least 58% of them said they suffered harassment in their families and in society.

“Older people are the most vulnerable as far as the threat of Coronavirus and the impact is concerned. There is an urgent need to squeal the entire community about the incident of developing elders. Older people also need to be educated about supporting systems, legal provisions, and non-formal supporting networks , accessible and available for them, “Himanshu Rath, Chair of the Agewell Foundation, was quoted by the PTI news agency.
The report also highlighted that most of the elderly must depend on family care that made them vulnerable and also said the persecution, abuse and abuse of elders, especially in their respective families. Among the worst affected ones are elderly women because of their poor financial status, increased level of dependence and because of the age of longer than elderly men, the next report is added.
